History of the game (draft notes)


These are my draft dev log for writiing the history behind the "PACard-MANford, The Real adventures of Pac-Man" . This is some text and some notes that will help me write the complete history in the future *when I find time :) )

The Real Adventures of Baron Pacard Manford was actually the 3rd game in a trilogy that had 6 parts...


December of 2022 the first part of the prequel-trilogy was submitted. 

The Adventures of the Real Cookie Man  was the first part. It was an attempt to make an adventure made like Ultimates Cookie . It had a bug that I didn't detect in my testing with the live lantern tester (the one that is build-in Lantern.exe). The problem was -in the spectrum version- that if there were more than 8-10 items on a location , some of the items were lost. This meant that game couldn't be completed. I posted a fix but it was after the CSSCGC 2022 deadline so the game was ignored.  This submission was actually the first attempt for a complex in the Lantern platform. This game helped me learn about some behaviour issues of lantern.

In 2023 I submited the two final parts of the trilogy. 

First was Real Adventures of Dr Robbie Pssst . It was an attempt to transfer Ultimates PSSST game to an adventure game. I wanted to add more graphics to the game but I had memory limitations. During this game I manage to find how to make NPCs move inside the game. I didn't use the moving incect code in the end because it would make the game very difficult. The CSSCGC judge didn't know the game PSSST so he didn't know what he had to do. The game featured a 10minutes intro (10 minute of actual loading time in a real zx-spectrum). 

At this point I was a little dissapointed because the last 2 entries looked unplayable to the judges. My bad english combined with different emulator behaviour and other reasons made these game go unnoticed. I was trying to build a story and the first two chapters was not read correctly (as I wanted).

BUT I didn' t quit...I couldn't anyway. All the other games were already done...

At some point in 2023 I submitted the Real Adventures of Baron Pacard Manford. Again , It seemed to me that the competition judge (JBizzel) had problems understanding my (bad) english so I thought it also got unnoticed...

The competition ended middle of December. When the results were announced I did not have time to read them. I did a very quick read of the post in my phone but I think I only read the first lines...

Them I saw some other members in SC forum congratulate some names and one of the names was mine (firelord)...At this point -I still was not aware what the actual results were.

Let's check the timeline :

-First I had the idea of a game named "Tower of Death" .

-Then I decided to make it a trilogy.

-I made a script to generate the initial code in lantern for the games in the trilogy.

-The trilogy made the pre-alpha stage. At this point I had the idea to make a prequel game.

-The prequel game was "real Adv of PacMan". (haunted mansion with ghosts and a central room)  When I was again in the pre-alpha version of Adv of Pacman I had the idea of anothe prequel.

-The Pacman prequel was "the real adv. of Robbie Pssst" (gardens full of incects that you must kill using correct sprays). Again, when I was in pre-alpha stage I decide to make it a prequel trilogy- so i had to make another game .

- The PSSST prequel was "The Real Adventures of cookie man" (an cook that had problems in the kitchen  ). 

After each game was made I revisited the next game in the series and improved it using the experience I earned with the previous. Cookie is very crude,linear and simple. Pssst was still linear but had more complex logic and needed timed actions. Pacman had moving NPCs in a maze and had much more complex logic.

What remains now is to create a campaign for the REAL trilogy and add some of the earned knowledge to the code...If and when I find time :)
